Somontano is the youngest Designation of Origin of Spain located at the feet of Aragonese Pyrenees in the province of Huesca, only an hour and a half from North in the AVE. There, at 700 meters on rocky slopes we find the "Secastilla Payments" in which the best Garnacha de Aragon.
Recently, wine Secastilla 2012, produced by Bodegas Viñas del Vero, has become the "Best Spanish Red Wine of the Year", according to the International Wine Challenge Merchant Awards Spain. In addition, in the most demanding competition worldwide, this wine of Viñas del Vero has obtained the award of Best red wine in Spain, Best Grenache of the Contest y Best Garnacha de Aragón.
The special agroclimatic characteristics and the diversity of the valley Secastilla, a hidden place at the foot of the Pyrenees, propitiate that in this land wines are elaborated with an own and differentiated personality. Mountain viticulture and manual harvesting are the hallmarks of Secastilla, that reflects the terroir in which it is born and whose singular character comes from the strains of Garnacha old with which it is made. This vineyard is cultivated in a glass in the valley from which it takes its name and which Viñas del Vero He decided to recover, at the beginning of the 20th century, to make this wine with a unique personality.
During 10 months, Secastilla evolves in new French oak barrels under the care of Jose Ferrer, winemaker of the winery. The fruit of this elaboration is a wine that offers a spectacular combination of bright shades and nuances of fruit in evolution with chocolate shavings accompanied by deep aromas in the nose. Softness and finesse precede the explosion of flavor and intensity that characterize this wine Somontano full, round and enveloping.
Viñas del Vero It was founded in 1986 and its name comes from the river that runs through the region, True, located at the foot of the Pyrenees. This winery is part of the Gonzalez Byass Wine Family since July of 2008 offering wines that represent the diversity of varieties, soils and climate of this region. Their wines are elaborated from traditional varieties of the region (Tempranillo, Moristel, Garnacha and Macabeo), with others from different origins (Chardonnay, Gewürztraminer, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Pinot Noir). Rounding out the Reserva wines range, reflecting the personality and creativity of winemakers, and two specialties: Secastilla, "Puro terroir", and Blecua, the "icon of Somontano".
