In the framework of the next North American International Auto Show (NAIAS) to be held in Detroit from the 14 to the 28 in January, BMW announces the presentation of its new models BMW i8 Coupe and BMW i8 Roadster First Edition, developed from technology BMW eDrive, which has projected the segment of the hybrids of this brand among the best sellers in the world. High performance and sustainability are characteristics that distinguish these models, conceived in a futuristic concept, full of avant-garde, full of details and innovations. In the case of BMW i8 Roadster First Edition, production has been limited to 200 units.

"The new digital services include intelligent route planning (with stops at charging points or service stations), the ability to share the trip in real time and customized displays."

One of the main novelties of the new BMW i8 is the updated battery, which increases its capacity from 20 Ah to 34 Ah and provides a maximum power that is increased by 9 kWh (12 CV). The new i8 develop in total a power of 374 horses and can travel up to 55 kilometers in 100% electric mode.

For its part, the i8 Roadster is 60 kilograms heavier than the i8 Coupé. Despite having a folding roof, the hybrid plug-in sports car keeps the doors in scissor opening. BMW has opted for an electric-powered canvas roof. At the touch of a button, the roof opens and closes silently in 15 seconds and at speeds up to 50 km / h. The hood is stored perpendicular to save space, which provides 100 liters more space for objects behind the seats.

Among the standard equipment of both models are the navigation system Professional, BMW Display Key, Driving Assistant with Surround View, and an 2 mode charging cable. The BMW Head-Up Display system with model-specific content, the BMW anti-glare laser light with BMW Selective Beam and the acoustic warning for pedestrians are offered as options.

With the premiere of the new variant Roadster and the update of the Coupé version, BMW also launches the exterior colors E-Cooper and Donington Gray, that join the already known Sophisto Gray and Chrystal White.

"The new Coupé includes mechanical improvements that translate into an extension of its autonomy in electric mode and an increase in power."
