Our research partners in the Institute for the Future (IFTF) recently predicted that we are entering the next era of the human-machine partnership and that between today and the 2030, humans and machines will work more closely with each other, transforming our lives, he says. Diego Majdalani, Vice President Dell EMC Latin America.

"We have worked with machines for centuries, but we are about to enter a completely new phase, characterized more than ever, by high levels of efficiency and opportunities," he says.

"Diego Majdalani, Vice President Dell EMC Latin America gives us his predictions from Dell Technologies for 2018."

Emerging technologies, such as Artificial Intelligence (AI), Augmented Reality (AR), Virtual Reality (VR), advances in the Internet of Things (IoT) and cloud computing, which have been possible thanks to exponential developments in software, analysis and processing power - are increasing and accelerating in this direction.

This is already evident in our cars, homes, businesses and connected banking transactions; even transforming how farmers manage their crops. Given this dizzying pace of progress, let's take a look at what comes next.

1 prediction: Artificial Intelligence will perform reasoning and thinking functions at high speed.

In the coming years, the AI will change the way we use our time to interact with data. Companies will take advantage of artificial intelligence to perform operations that were previously considered to be human, which will significantly reduce the time spent on the analysis and planning of scenarios and new innovations. It will allow people to make more decisions and move faster, achieving progress and consolidation of new ideas and projects.

Some experts say that AI will replace jobs, but these innovative technologies can also create new jobs, unleashing new opportunities for humans. For example, we will see a new type of IT professional focused on training and adjusting artificial intelligence. These professionals will be responsible for establishing the parameters for what is due and should not be classified as good commercial results, determine the rules for the business, frame what constitutes 'reward', etc. Once this is well determined, the technology can recommend positive business opportunities at the speed of light.

2 Prediction: Incorporation of the Internet of Things

Starting with 2018, we will take giant steps to incorporate near-instant intelligence in cities, organizations, homes and vehicles enhanced with IoT. With the decrease in processing power costs and a connected node approaching US $ 0, we will soon have 100 one billion connected devices, and then a billion.

The magnitude of all the data combined, the processing power with the power of the AI, will help the machines to better orchestrate our physical and human resources. We will become 'digital conductors' of technology, and the environments that surround us. Technology will work as an extension of ourselves. Each object will become intelligent and allow us to live smarter lives.

We are seeing this in our cars, the "next generation mobile devices", which are being equipped with ultrasonic sensors, technology that uses light beams to measure the distance between vehicles and the recognition of gestures. Over time, these innovations will make autonomous driving an everyday reality. Before what we imagine, we will get used to the cars that will book their appointment for the realization of some service, informing the service center what they should do and programming their own software updates.

3 Prediction: We will use Augmented Reality hearing aids

Nor will it be long before the lines between "real" reality and augmented reality begin to fade. The commercial viability of the RA is already evident. For example, teams of construction workers, architects and engineers are using RA hearing aids to visualize new constructions, coordinate efforts based on a single vision of a development, and train workers at work when a technician can not be on the job. site that day.

Of course, the RV also has good prospects. Undoubtedly, it will transform the entertainment space and games in the short term, thanks to the immersive experiences it offers, but smart bets are on the RA, becoming the form that, de facto, will maximize human efficiency, and enhance the 'tribal knowledge' of an evolving workforce.

4 Prediction: A deeper relationship with customers

The digital transformation index of Dell Technologies, shows that the 45% of the leaders of the medium and large organizations believe that they could become obsolete within 5 years, and the 78% considers that the new companies are a threat to their businesses. It has never been more important to put the customer experience first.

During the next year, with predictive analysis, machine learning and AI, companies will understand and provide better service to customers. Customer service will focus on perfecting the mix between man and machine. Therefore, instead of downloading customer interactions to first generation conversational bots and predetermined messages, humans and automated intelligent virtual agents will work together as a single team.

5 Prediction: Bias control will become the next spell checker

Over the next decade, emerging technologies such as VR, AI, will help people find and act on information without the interference of external emotions or prejudices, while empowering them to exercise human judgment when appropriate.

In the short term, we will see that AI applies to recruitment and promotion procedures to detect conscious and unconscious prejudices. Meanwhile, VR will increasingly be used as an interview tool to ensure that opportunities are granted only by merit, for example, by masking the true identity of a potential employee with an avatar.

By using emerging technologies for these purposes, 'bias control' could one day become a routine tool, such as the 'spell checker', but with benefits for the whole society.

6 Prediction: Media and Entertainment will have new paths with electronic sports "esports"

In 2018, we will see an increasing number of players sitting behind screens or using RV headphones to compete in a high-definition computing universe. As hundreds of millions of players and viewers are tuned in, electronic sports will enter the main road.

The phenomenon "esports" points to a broader trend. That is to say, even human activities as normal as sports have been digitized. Technology has expanded 'sport' in every way. It is not necessary that you have a certain physique or aptitude. If you have good motor skills and abilities, you can play and achieve victory.

In addition, traditional sports, such as cycling, have improved their game by collecting data to identify achievements that are on the rise, but that change the game. In the future, every business will be a technology business, and our free time will become a connected experience.

7 Prediction: We will travel towards the "mega-cloud"

The cloud is not a destination. It is an IT model where orchestration, automation and intelligence are deeply integrated into the IT infrastructure. At 2018, companies are moving overwhelmingly towards a multi-cloud approach, leveraging the value of all models from public to private, hosted, managed and SaaS. However, as more applications and workloads move across several clouds, the proliferation of silos in the cloud will become inevitable, inhibiting the organization's ability to fully exploit data analysis and artificial intelligence initiatives. . This can also lead to applications and data that land in the wrong cloud, causing poor results.

As a next step, we will see the emergence of the "mega-cloud", which will interlace multiple private and public clouds to behave as a coherent and holistic system. The mega-cloud will offer a federated and intelligent view of an entire IT environment. For the mega-cloud to be possible, we will need to create multi-cloud innovations in networks (to move data between clouds), storage (to place data in the correct cloud) and computing (to use the best processing and acceleration for workloads) ), orchestration (to link networks, storage and computation in all clouds) and, as a new opportunity, customers will have to incorporate IA and machine learning, to take automation and knowledge to a new level from this IT environment. Next Generation.

8 Prediction: The year to take into account the small things

In this increasingly interconnected world, our dependence on third parties has never been so great. Organizations are not simple atomic instances; rather, they are highly interconnected systems that exist as part of something even bigger. Now that technology connects us in amazing ways, the traces of chaos have spread faster and faster. Note that one of the most important data breaches in the history occurred because the attackers used credentials to log in to a third party air conditioning and ventilation system.

Due to our increasingly interconnected relationship with machines, small and subtle failures can lead to mega failures. Therefore, next year will be action for multinational corporations, which will be more inspired by the avalanche of new regulations such as GDPR (General Data Protection Regulation, for its acronym in English). For organizations to achieve growth during 2018, they must prioritize in the implementation of cyber security tools and technologies that allow them to effectively protect their data and prevent threats.

We are about to see a radical change in our relationship with machines, entering a completely new phase of human-machine associations characterized by a solid and efficient relationship, which will influence business, work and our society.
